ABOUT US

Your Well Drilling Experts Since 1884

Meet the M.C. Wheeler Team

Our company’s story begins in 1884 with a man named William Hazen, who started the business with a single shovel for digging wells. However, he quickly revolutionized his well digging methods once he acquired a horse, tripod, and set of ropes—the rest is history!

After Hazen passed away, his company was acquired for $600 by a man named Melvin Clinton (M.C.) Wheeler. Wheeler had joined his father in the well drilling business and saw it as a lucrative opportunity. Considering that our company is still alive and “well” today, his estimations were correct.

M.C.’s sons Tom and Harold “Potch” Wheeler brought the company to a whole new level by incorporating it in 1961. Despite them staying up to date on the latest trends and technology in the well drilling industry, they promised their father that the company would forever carry his namesake as M.C. Wheeler & Sons.

Fast forward to 1992, which is when Potch’s son Kim became the company’s new owner. At that time, there were only five employees working for the company, but that number has since doubled to ten employees. Nowadays, Kim’s daughter Crystal and son Nathan serve as the office manager and head well driller, respectively. Vice President Kent Rethlake has worked for the company for more than 30 years as well.

Safety, Efficiency, Reliability—That’s Our Promise

M.C. Wheeler & Sons is committed to providing the ultimate customer service experience, while placing a big premium on workplace safety. All our team members undergo training for three to four years before operating drilling rigs on their own and attend continuing education programs and seminars to stay up to date on the latest safety standards and industry technology.
